Upcoming Partial Solar Eclipse and Lunar Events in the UK

A partial solar eclipse will be visible in the UK on Saturday, 29 March 2025. The event begins at 10:07 AM GMT in London, with maximum coverage at 11:03 AM and concluding at 12:00 PM.

During this partial eclipse, the Moon will obscure part of the Sun, with varying coverage across the UK. The Outer Hebrides is expected to see approximately 47% of the Sun obscured, Northern Ireland 44%, and West Wales 38%.

The last total solar eclipse visible from the UK occurred in 1999, primarily seen in Cornwall. Observers are advised to use appropriate eye protection when viewing solar eclipses.

In addition to the partial solar eclipse, the UK will experience a total lunar eclipse on 7 September 2025, with the Moon appearing dark red as it passes through the Earth’s shadow. The maximum eclipse will occur at 19:11 BST.

2025 will also feature three supermoons: the Hunter's Moon on 7 October, the Beaver Moon on 5 November, and the Cold Moon on 4 December. Supermoons appear larger and brighter when the Moon is closest to Earth in its orbit.
