Unseasonable Dry Spell Hits Himachal Pradesh, India - November 16, 2024

Shimla, Himachal Pradesh has experienced an unprecedented dry spell, with no rainfall recorded for the past 46 days. As temperatures drop, water is beginning to freeze in higher altitudes, prompting local authorities to issue advisories regarding potential road closures.

The weather department had forecast light rain and snowfall in elevated regions on November 15-16, but these predictions did not materialize. A yellow alert has been issued for fog in certain areas over the next three days. Despite the clear weather, pollution levels remain stable, with only Baddi showing poor air quality due to industrial activities.

Temperature records indicate Taboo in Lahaul-Spiti has reached a low of -5.6 degrees Celsius, while Bilaspur recorded a high of 28 degrees. Minimum temperatures in other regions include 9.6 degrees in Shimla, 4.5 in Manali, and 3.9 in Reckong Peo.

Authorities have restricted traffic on the Manali-Kaza route to a limited window from 11 AM to 3 PM due to icy conditions. The Leh-Manali highway remains open, contrasting with typical seasonal closures.

The ongoing dry conditions since October have raised concerns among farmers and hoteliers, significantly affecting local tourism.
