The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines has established a strategic partnership with OceanX Education Inc., a U.S.-based ocean exploration initiative. This collaboration allows Filipino learners to participate in immersive multi-day experiences aboard the OceanXplorer, the world's most advanced research and media vessel.
Education Secretary Juan Edgardo 'Sonny' Angara stated that the partnership aims to enhance ocean education and leadership among Filipino students. The memorandum of agreement (MOA) outlines plans for science expeditions utilizing the OceanXplorer, along with related film and media projects.
As part of the initiative, in-port activations will provide hands-on learning experiences, offering insights into marine science, conservation, and research as part of the 2025 science research expedition. OceanX also offers unique learning opportunities through its 'Young Explorers Program' (YEP) for individuals aged 18 to 24, which includes workshops and independent study in ocean science and digital storytelling.
