Saudi Arabia Raises $26.7 Million for Gaza Relief Amid Ongoing Conflict

A campaign in Saudi Arabia has raised approximately 100 million riyals (around US$26.7 million) for relief efforts in Gaza, according to Dr. Samer Al-Jatili, spokesperson for the King Salman Centre for Relief. The funds will be allocated for ambulances, water tanks, and food as the conflict in Gaza escalates.

The campaign, named 'Gaza Relief', saw participation from over two million donors. Al-Jatili emphasized the Kingdom's commitment to supporting Palestine, stating that the donations reflect ongoing support for the Palestinian people.

Since the onset of the conflict in October 2023, Gaza has faced severe humanitarian challenges. The UN reports that at least 1.9 million people, or about 90 percent of Gaza's population, are now internally displaced. The World Food Programme has called for urgent action to prevent famine as aid efforts are hindered by the conflict.

Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry previously pledged to send monthly aid packages to support the humanitarian situation in Gaza, following a visit from Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in August.

As the war continues, the situation in northern Gaza remains dire, with significant casualties reported and ongoing blockades limiting access to essential supplies.
