PORT-AU-PRINCE, Jan 5 - A contingent of 75 Guatemalan soldiers has arrived in the Haitian capital to support a United Nations-backed mission aimed at restoring order in the face of escalating gang violence. This follows the arrival of an initial group of 75 soldiers the previous day, bringing the total number of Guatemalan troops to 150. The reinforcements are drawn from Guatemala's military police unit, as confirmed by the Guatemalan government.

Additionally, eight soldiers from El Salvador also joined the mission on Friday. The deployment underscores the international effort to stabilize Haiti, which has been grappling with significant civil unrest and insecurity due to gang activities.
