Severe Flooding in Spain Claims 222 Lives and Causes Extensive Damage

On November 10, 2024, Spanish authorities confirmed that the death toll from torrential rains has risen to 222, with 214 fatalities reported in the Mediterranean province of Valencia. The remaining casualties include seven individuals from the neighboring region of Castilla-La Mancha and one from Andalucía.

As of the latest updates, 195 bodies have been identified, and 140 have been returned to their families. Additionally, 36,803 individuals have been rescued from dangerous situations, with 82 rescues occurring in the past hours.

The flooding, which began on October 29, has resulted in billions in damages to private properties, infrastructure, and public services. The Spanish government, alongside the regional government of Valencia, has deployed significant resources for cleanup, debris removal, and reconstruction efforts.

Currently, 8,495 military personnel are engaged in relief operations, supported by specialized land, air, and water vehicles. Security forces consist of 9,728 agents working to assist affected communities.
