A new AI assistant has arrived on the iPhone and Android, joining the ranks of ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Google Gemini. Le Chat, developed by French AI company Mistral, was previously only available online, but has now launched on the App Store and Google Play Store.
Le Chat utilizes Mistral's native language models, Mistral Large and Pixtral Large, making it a competitor to other AI chatbots. Mistral Large is a powerful large language model (LLM) designed for text-based tasks, while Pixtral Large is a multimodal language model that can understand and reason with both text and visual data.
Le Chat is known for its ability to answer up to 1,000 words per second and promises better image generation and privacy than competitor products. It includes natural language conversations, real-time internet searches, and document analysis, integrating pre-trained knowledge with current web searches, journalism, and social media content.
Mistral has also introduced a paid plan called Le Chat Pro, available for $14.99 per month. This plan offers unlimited access to Mistral's highest-performing model and web browsing capabilities, as well as unlimited messages per day, extended news access, unrestricted file uploads, and other enhanced features.
With AI chatbots currently among the most popular apps in the App Store, it remains to be seen if Le Chat will find an audience among iPhone and Android users.
