Cloudflare Thwarts Record 3.8 Tbps DDoS Attack, Global Security Concerns Rise

Cloudflare has set a new record by successfully mitigating the largest DDoS attack in history, peaking at a staggering 3.8 Tbps. This unprecedented attack, reportedly involving sources from Vietnam, targeted various sectors including finance, telecommunications, and internet services.

In September 2024, an unidentified group of hackers launched a massive DDoS campaign, overwhelming bandwidth and system resources to incapacitate online services. Cloudflare reported over 100 L3/4 DDoS attacks, with the peak attack surpassing the previous record of 3.47 Tbps set by Microsoft in 2021. The attack utilized the UDP protocol on a fixed port, with botnets originating from multiple countries, including Vietnam, Russia, Brazil, Spain, and the United States.

Thanks to its global server network and automated attack detection capabilities, Cloudflare successfully protected its clients from this super DDoS assault. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing cybersecurity threats worldwide, urging users to remain vigilant, regularly update software, and implement robust security measures to safeguard their devices.
