Revolutionary MEMS Neuristor Reduces Device Energy Consumption

Researchers at ODTÜ's ULTRAMEMS Research Laboratory have developed a groundbreaking device called the MEMS Neuristor, capable of significantly lowering energy consumption in electronic devices.

This neuromorphic processor component mimics the human brain's ability to process information efficiently. It aims to extend smartphone battery life to up to one year without the need for recharging.

Current smartphones require daily charging, consuming substantial energy. The MEMS Neuristor integrates memory and processing units, reducing energy use compared to traditional systems that separate these functions, which results in higher energy consumption and latency.

By enabling local processing of data, the MEMS Neuristor could enhance personal data protection by minimizing reliance on external servers. This innovation is projected to revolutionize various sectors, including healthcare, finance, and transportation, by providing faster and more efficient AI processing systems.

ODTÜ plans to collaborate with global tech giants such as HP, IBM, and NVIDIA to further develop and commercialize this technology, marking a significant step towards establishing a leading position in the neuromorphic computing field.
