Lucid Motors is utilizing a large language model (LLM) from SoundHound AI to enhance its Lucid Assistant, an upgradable voice assistant for drivers. This collaboration aims to provide interactive knowledge discovery, real-time data, and in-vehicle controls.
Dr. Jean-Philippe Gauthier, Head of Software Engineering at Lucid, emphasized the partnership's potential, stating, "Developing Lucid Assistant in cooperation with SoundHound enables us to deliver much more than a voice control feature." He noted that frequent over-the-air software updates will allow the assistant to evolve over time.
The Lucid Assistant is activated by the phrase "Hey Lucid," allowing users to ask questions conversationally and receive accurate responses. SoundHound's technology minimizes the risk of misleading answers, a common issue with some LLMs.
Available in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, and French, the assistant can control navigation and other critical features, even without a cellular connection. Michael Zagorsek, COO of SoundHound AI, remarked on the innovation, stating it opens new opportunities for drivers and manufacturers alike.
