Infosys, India's second-largest IT services firm, has inaugurated a new software development campus in Kolkata, aiming to enhance innovation and create 4,000 jobs.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee emphasized that the facility, covering 320,000 sq. ft. and built with an investment exceeding ₹426 crore, will support a hybrid working model for its employees.

Banerjee announced plans for a new Silicon Valley in New Town, which will span 200 acres and involve a ₹27,000 crore investment, potentially generating 75,000 IT jobs. Currently, 28 companies are operational, with 40 others securing land for development, including 11 data centers.

The state has established 22 IT parks, with 85% occupancy, and is also planning a semiconductor production facility. West Bengal boasts 45,000 engineering seats across universities, with 24,000 graduates this year trained in AI and machine learning.

Infosys stated that the development center will significantly advance innovation and employment in the region, positioning West Bengal as a key IT hub in India.

The local IT sector is expanding at a remarkable rate of 70% annually, bolstered by state initiatives to attract investments.
