Mountain View, CA - Google has officially launched Android XR, a new operating system designed to enhance augmented reality (AR) experiences. This initiative aims to revolutionize how users interact with technology, promising to 'transform how you watch, work, and explore.'

Android XR builds on years of investment in AI, AR, and virtual reality (VR). The first device to utilize this platform will be Project Moohan, a mixed-reality headset developed by Samsung, expected to be released next year. Developers can now access the Android XR SDK to create experiences for the new platform.

Juston Payne, director of product for XR at Google, emphasized that existing AR technologies, such as Google Lens and Live View for Maps, will support Android XR's capabilities. The platform aims to integrate AR experiences into everyday glasses, enabling seamless digital overlays for navigation, communication, and data access.

Android XR is set to include integration with popular Google services like Maps, Photos, Translate, and Chrome, ensuring compatibility with existing Android apps. This launch marks a significant step for Google in the evolving AR landscape, focusing on accessibility and powerful AI integration.
