Vietnam Emphasizes AI in Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Innovation

Vietnam is focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) as a key driver in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, according to Lê Huy Anh, vice-director of the Intellectual Property Office. He highlighted the importance of open innovation and inventions for sustainable growth in these industries.

At a recent forum, Nguyên Thanh Bình, vice-president of the Vietnam Inventors Association, emphasized the need for tailored open innovation strategies to enhance scientific research and community health services.

Nguyễn Hoàng Định, vice-director of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, noted that AI applications are increasingly common in healthcare, improving efficiency and alleviating hospital workloads. This trend is particularly beneficial in rural areas where medical personnel are scarce.

As Vietnam seeks to strengthen its legal framework for innovation, the role of patents in protecting medical inventions is becoming increasingly crucial, especially for advancements in disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
