Anthropic Launches Desktop App for Claude AI Chatbot

Anthropic has introduced a new desktop application for its AI chatbot, Claude, available for both Mac and Windows users. The app can be downloaded from Anthropic's website.

While the desktop version of Claude maintains similar functionalities to its web counterpart, it allows users to easily ask questions, access past conversations, and view starred chats without needing to visit a website.

Notably, the application does not include the Computer Use API, which enables interaction with desktop tools, disappointing some users. However, Anthropic has added dictation support for its Claude app on Android and iOS, allowing voice queries.

The AI competition is intensifying, with major players like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic rapidly releasing similar features and applications. Claude's desktop app joins the ranks of offerings from OpenAI and Perplexity, while Microsoft Copilot is integrated into Windows 11. The application will be accessible to both free and paid subscribers of Anthropic.
