ISRO's ADITYA-L1 Mission Reports First Results on Solar Ejections

BENGALURU: Scientists at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) have announced the initial significant findings from the Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC) payload aboard India's first solar mission, ADITYA-L1. Launched on September 2, 2023, by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), the mission aims to observe the Sun from the Lagrangian point L1.

The VELC data allowed researchers to accurately determine the onset time of a coronal mass ejection (CME) that occurred on July 16. This marks the first scientific result obtained from ISRO's inaugural solar mission, according to R Ramesh, Senior Professor at IIA and Principal Investigator of the VELC payload.
