Cyclone Fengal Approaches Tamil Nadu

On November 27, a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclone Fengal, which is moving rapidly towards the southeastern coast of India. The cyclone is currently located approximately 130 km east-southeast of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, and is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the next few days.

The India Meteorological Department has issued warnings for light to moderate rainfall, along with isolated thunderstorms, across coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Mahe. Extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated in parts of Tamil Nadu until November 30, with heavy rainfall also expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh from November 28 through December 1.

In preparation for the cyclone, authorities have advised fishermen to refrain from venturing into the sea and have issued alerts for coastal residents to stay vigilant. Various regions in Tamil Nadu, particularly Chennai, are bracing for significant rainfall, prompting school closures in certain districts.

The cyclone is predicted to strengthen further and could make landfall in northern Tamil Nadu within the next two days, according to meteorological forecasts. Emergency response teams have been deployed, and relief operations are being organized in anticipation of the storm's impact.
