Severe Weather Expected in Mexico - October 29, 2024

On October 29, a tropical wave No. 29 is predicted to move across southeastern Mexico, interacting with a high-altitude trough affecting northeastern, central, and southern regions. This will result in heavy showers and thunderstorms, with potential hail.

Low temperatures will prevail in central and eastern Mexico, with possible snow or sleet at elevations above 4,500 meters, particularly on the peaks of Popocatépetl, Iztaccíhuatl, and Pico de Orizaba. This atmospheric instability, combined with moisture from the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, is expected to cause intense rainfall in the southeast and the Yucatán Peninsula.

Additionally, cold front No. 6 will move over Sonora and Chihuahua, interacting with the polar jet stream and a dry line forming over northern Coahuila. This will maintain a drop in temperatures across northwestern and northern regions, with wind gusts ranging from 70 to 90 km/h, creating dust storms in Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, and Coahuila. In Baja California Sur, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Durango, gusts of 50 to 70 km/h are anticipated.

Despite the rain, high temperatures will persist, especially in the northern states, where they may reach up to 40 degrees Celsius. According to the National Water Commission (Conagua), cloudy skies are expected in the morning, with cool conditions and possible fog in high areas of the Valley of Mexico. In the afternoon, a temperate atmosphere is forecast, with cloudy to overcast skies and rain showers in both Mexico City and the State of Mexico, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms.
