Rare Tintin Collection Auctioned for €200,000

On October 23, 2024, Tajan auction house will host a remarkable auction featuring a collection of original Tintin albums by Hergé, with one piece potentially fetching €200,000. This sale has garnered significant attention, as the albums, dating back to the 1930s, are in exceptional condition, having been preserved in a special environment for over 30 years.

The collection belongs to Felipe Ortiz-Patino, a Swiss art collector, who decided to part with these treasures, believing he wasn't enjoying them enough. Expert Felix Perez highlights that the remarkable preservation of the albums greatly enhances their value. He notes, “The condition of a comic book is often what determines its worth.”

The standout item is a 1932 edition of 'Tintin in America,' personally signed by Hergé. The inscription reads, “By the way, Tintin is just another version of myself, who would have continued down this path, fully...” This statement, directed to his mentor, Abbé Helsen, adds a unique personal touch, making it even more desirable for collectors. Additionally, this album features a distinctive crimson spine, a rarity that sets it apart from others.

As the auction approaches, collectors are eager to see if this iconic piece will indeed reach its estimated price, further solidifying Tintin's legacy in the world of art and collectibles.
