UN Praises Qatar's Mediation Role

Doha, Qatar: The United Nations commended Qatar's efforts as a mediator in global disputes during a statement by UN Assistant Secretary-General Alexandre Zouev on September 25, 2024.

Zouev highlighted Qatar's significant role in various peace negotiations, including the Darfur conflict, the Afghan peace process, and the 2008 Doha agreement that ended Lebanon's political crisis. He also noted Qatar's involvement in resolving the Djibouti-Eritrea border dispute and its joint mediation efforts in the Gaza Strip alongside Egypt and the US.

Furthermore, Zouev praised the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award as a major initiative, expressing anticipation for the next award ceremony in Costa Rica. He emphasized the importance of international humanitarian law in upcoming UN discussions, particularly at the Summit of the Future 2024 scheduled for September 22-23 at UN Headquarters.
