US President Trump Removes Head of National Archives, California Allocates $50 Million to Fight Trump Administration in Court, US to Continue Buying Agricultural Commodities for Aid Programs

President Donald Trump has removed the head of the National Archives and Records Administration, according to his chief of personnel. Sergio Gor, the presidential personnel office director, announced on X late Friday that Colleen Shogan, the Archivist of the United States, has been dismissed. The agency serves as the steward of White House records, among other things.

The US Department of Agriculture announced on Friday that the country will continue to buy agricultural commodities to supply some of the world's poorest countries as part of aid programs. Purchases of US crops such as corn and soybeans will continue as part of activities funded by the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education, the Childhood Nutrition Program and the Food for Progress Program.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed two bills allocating $50 million to fight the Trump administration in court and provide legal aid for immigrants. The funding package, approved by the Democratic-led legislature in a special session called by Newsom, directs $25 million to Attorney General Rob Bonta's office for litigation against the federal government and another $25 million to help nonprofit groups providing legal-aid services to undocumented immigrants.
