Indonesia Tests Bioethanol E10 in Vehicles

On November 22, 2024, in Indonesia, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga announced a collaboration with PT Toyota-Astra Motor and PT Serasi Autoraya to test Bioethanol E10 as part of a Use Case Collaboration aimed at accelerating biofuel adoption.

The partnership was formalized at the Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week 2024. This initiative enables stakeholders to study the effectiveness of alternative energy blends from ethanol in reducing motor vehicle emissions and assessing vehicle performance.

Riva Siahaan, CEO of Pertamina Patra Niaga, emphasized the collaboration's role in fostering a biofuel ecosystem during Indonesia's green energy transition.

The Bioethanol E10 trial will take place in Surabaya over the next year, utilizing the fuel in 50 vehicles, including Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid EV, Avanza, Calya, and Agya, managed by TRAC using a Fleet Management System (FMS).

Real-time monitoring will assess fuel consumption, driving behavior, and engine condition to evaluate E10's effectiveness.

Siahaan highlighted that this initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support Indonesia's Net Zero Emission target by 2060, create job opportunities, and enhance the welfare of local farmers involved in the bioethanol supply chain.

Harsono Budi Santoso, Director of Planning and Business Development at Pertamina Patra Niaga, confirmed that a Bioethanol E10 tank will be installed at TRAC's vehicle pool in Wonosari, Surabaya, with fuel supplied from the Surabaya Fuel Terminal.

Pertamina Patra Niaga remains committed to providing clean energy solutions across various sectors, with this collaboration expected to expedite the transition to a green transportation system, contributing to Indonesia's Net Zero Emission goal.
