Mazda Indonesia Lowers Sales Target Amid Market Decline

Mazda Indonesia has revised its sales target to 4,500 units due to a sluggish domestic automotive market.

Initially set at 5,300 units, the target was first adjusted to 5,000 units before being reduced again to the current figure. This adjustment aligns with the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association's (Gaikindo) national sales target revision from 1.1 million units to 850,000 units.

Chief Operating Officer Ricky Thio noted a monthly sales drop, with Mazda selling only 300 units in October, a decrease of 25.18% from September’s 401 units. From January to October, total wholesale sales for Mazda reached 3,747 units, capturing a market share of 0.5%.

The overall automotive market is experiencing a downturn, with total wholesale sales dropping 15% year-on-year. Retail sales also fell by 11.5% in the same period.

Looking ahead, Mazda has not projected sales for the next year, anticipating further declines in the market, especially with the impending increase in VAT to 12% starting January 2025, which could further pressure vehicle sales.
