Hyundai Unveils 'INITIUM' Hydrogen FCEV Concept at Auto Shows

Hyundai Motor Company is set to debut its next-generation hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) concept, 'INITIUM', at the Los Angeles and Guangzhou Auto Shows in November. This model aims to redefine hydrogen technology and reflects Hyundai's vision for sustainable mobility.

The 'INITIUM' is expected to launch in the first half of 2025, symbolizing a new era in hydrogen vehicles with its name meaning 'beginning' in Latin. It introduces Hyundai's new design language, 'Art of Steel', and showcases the character of the HTWO hydrogen value chain.

Hyundai's CEO, Jaehoon Chang, emphasized the company's commitment to creating clean energy solutions, aiming for a future where hydrogen is universally accessible. The design of 'INITIUM' features a robust aesthetic with a distinctive lighting signature inspired by the 'plus' sign.

Key features of the 'INITIUM' include:

  • Enhanced driving range of over 650 kilometers through larger hydrogen tanks, lower rolling resistance tires, and aerodynamic rims.

  • An FCEV-specific route planner to streamline the search for charging stations, providing real-time updates on location and availability.

  • V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) capability, allowing the vehicle to power household appliances and charge other electric vehicles.

Hyundai's investment in hydrogen technology began in 2005 with the establishment of the Mabuk Environmental Technology R&D Center. Following the mass production of the NEXO in 2018, Hyundai aims to expand its hydrogen FCEV offerings.
