OpenAI to Launch Advanced AI Models Amidst Growing Competition

OpenAI announced it is testing new reasoning AI models, o3 and o3 mini, signaling intensifying competition with Google. CEO Sam Altman stated that o3 mini is set for launch by the end of January, with the full o3 model to follow.

The new models aim to outperform existing ones, potentially attracting more investments and users. OpenAI's previous models, o1, released in September, were designed for complex problem-solving in fields like science, coding, and math.

Currently in internal safety testing, the o3 models are expected to be more powerful than the o1 models. OpenAI is inviting external researchers to apply for testing the o3 models before their public release, with applications closing on January 10.

Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, OpenAI has significantly influenced the AI landscape, recently securing $6.6 billion in funding. In response, Google's Alphabet released its second-generation AI model, Gemini, earlier this month, aiming to regain its leadership in AI technology.
