Severe Winter Storm Hits Eastern U.S.

January 5, 2025 - A powerful winter storm is currently affecting millions across the central and eastern United States, bringing significant snowfall, dangerous ice accumulations, and severe blizzard conditions.

The storm began on Saturday and is expected to continue moving towards the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions until Tuesday, impacting approximately 45 million people in major cities including St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia.

Heavy snowfall and strong winds have created blizzard conditions in states like Kansas and Missouri, leading to near-zero visibility and impassable roads. Temperatures are forecasted to be between 7 to 14 degrees Celsius below normal due to the polar vortex descending from the Arctic, which may even reach states as far south as Florida.

Meanwhile, the Northeast is set to experience lighter snowfall on Monday, but significant impacts on travel routes in Washington D.C. and New York are anticipated due to icy conditions.
