A major incident has been declared in Greater Manchester following extensive flooding that has resulted in home evacuations and disrupted transport services. The Greater Manchester Police confirmed the declaration as mountain rescue teams assist the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service with damaged properties and stranded vehicles.

Residents in areas under flood warnings have been advised to evacuate, as reported by Manchester City Council. Heavy rainfall has affected the North West and Wales, with some regions experiencing nearly a month's worth of precipitation within just 48 hours. Honister Pass in Cumbria recorded approximately 150mm of rain, while Rochdale saw around 77mm.

The most severely impacted areas include Bolton, Didsbury, Harpurhey, Stalybridge, Stockport, and Wigan. Chief Superintendent Colette Rose emphasized the importance of a coordinated response from emergency services to ensure public safety. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local council updates regarding road closures and available support services.

The Environment Agency reported 90 flood warnings in place across England, with additional warnings for Wales and Scotland. Significant inland flooding is expected to persist in northern England due to ongoing rainfall.
