Academic City University: Pioneering Progressive Education in Ghana

Ghana's tertiary education landscape has evolved significantly, with private universities like Academic City University emerging as vital contributors to national development. These institutions address the challenges of limited capacity in government universities, offering students alternative pathways to higher education.

On December 19, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo awarded a Presidential Charter to Academic City University College, recognizing its excellence in education. This milestone allows the university to independently award degrees and innovate its academic offerings.

The journey to this charter involved rigorous evaluations by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and the Ministry of Education, assessing teaching methodologies, curriculum quality, and governance. Academic City, mentored by notable institutions like the University of Cape Coast, achieved this recognition in under seven years, marking it as one of Ghana's youngest chartered universities.

With newfound autonomy, Academic City has launched MSc programs in Data Science and Cybersecurity and plans to introduce PhD programs, emphasizing a curriculum that prepares students for a dynamic workforce. The university aims to foster a student-centered learning environment, focusing on entrepreneurship and leadership skills.

Recognized as the 15th-ranked university in Sub-Saharan Africa by Times Higher Education in 2023, Academic City is committed to continuous innovation and excellence in education, setting a benchmark for other institutions in Africa.
