Severe Air Pollution in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Ranks Among Worst Globally

On October 7, 2024, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have been reported as some of the most polluted cities worldwide, according to data from IQAir. At 8:50 AM, the air quality index in Hanoi reached 174, marking it as the worst globally, while Ho Chi Minh City recorded an index of 147, placing it seventh.

Specific areas in Hanoi, such as Chùa Láng and Thành Công, showed air quality levels harmful to health, with readings between 160 and 183. The National Center for Meteorological Forecasting predicts that the current dry weather pattern will persist, with low humidity and potential morning fog. Nighttime temperatures are expected to drop, particularly in mountainous regions.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is forecasted for areas from Hà Tĩnh to Quảng Ngãi, with localized downpours potentially exceeding 100mm in six hours. Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Bình Định to Bình Thuận, the Central Highlands, and southern regions later in the day.
