Ukraine Marks 1,000 Days of War Amid Ongoing UN Support

On November 19, 2024, Ukraine commemorates 1,000 days since the onset of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation. The conflict, which escalated in February 2022, has resulted in over 39,000 civilian casualties, with more than 3,400 schools and hospitals damaged or destroyed, and approximately 10 million people displaced.

Throughout this period, the United Nations has collaborated with national and international organizations to address the urgent needs of the vulnerable, including those with limited mobility and the elderly. The UN's efforts have focused on providing assistance to those near the front lines, enabling education for children in emergencies, and supporting demining and recovery initiatives in agriculture and energy.

The Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine emphasized the importance of continued international solidarity as the country faces another winter of conflict. The UN calls for ongoing support for first responders and volunteers who play a crucial role in alleviating suffering and rebuilding lives.
