Wildfires in Argentina: 3,300 Hectares Burned in El Bolsón, Evacuations Ordered, Man Arrested for Starting Fire

A wildfire in the El Bolsón area of Argentina has burned an estimated 3,300 hectares, prompting evacuations and the deployment of additional resources. The fire has been spreading rapidly, with authorities reporting intense activity towards Costa del Azul and Loma del Medio. Favorable weather conditions are expected to aid firefighting efforts, with a cold front and potential rainfall anticipated on Sunday.

The Río Negro government, El Bolsón municipality, and emergency response agencies have implemented an expanded operation, increasing personnel, aerial support, and logistical resources in the affected area. Evacuations were ordered on Friday for several areas, including Las Perlas del Azul, Dulcería, Cascada Escondida, and Loma del Medio.

Meanwhile, firefighters battled a blaze in the Lanín National Park, particularly in the Neuquén mountain region. The latest official report indicates that the fire has affected 7,000 hectares. Provincial Route 60 remains closed from the access to the Chiquilihuín community to the Mamuil Malal border crossing.

In a separate incident, Río Negro Governor Alberto Weretilnech announced the arrest of a man caught starting a fire in a wooded area of El Bolsón. The governor described the act as "criminal" and stated that the individual was apprehended after being filmed igniting a fire. The authorities confiscated evidence and ordered the suspect's detention. Governor Weretilnech emphasized that those who intentionally start fires will face consequences.
