On January 9, 2025, China announced an extensive plan to bolster the yuan by issuing a historic amount of bills in the Hong Kong market. The People's Bank of China will release 60 billion yuan (approximately $8.2 billion) in six-month bills, as stated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.

This issuance is designed to absorb an equivalent amount of yuan from circulation, thereby increasing demand for the currency overseas.
