Xanadu Unveils Scalable Photon Quantum Computer

Canadian company Xanadu has developed the world's first scalable and networked photon quantum computer prototype, named Aurora.

Aurora is a 12-qubit system utilizing four independent modular server racks, containing a total of 35 photonic chips and 13 kilometers of optical fiber. Remarkably, it operates at room temperature.

The creators claim Aurora is highly scalable, designed for fault-tolerant quantum computing. Currently functioning as a small data center, it can potentially scale to thousands of server racks and millions of qubits.

The system employs a repetition code, which encodes one logical qubit into multiple physical qubits, enabling easy error detection and correction.

Testing has confirmed Aurora's potential for complex calculations in a fault-tolerant manner. However, challenges remain, such as high signal loss during large-scale deployment and the need for advanced components for seamless operation.
