The Moinhos de Vento Hospital has invested R$ 7.5 million in the Mako SmartRobotics system, becoming the first hospital in Rio Grande do Sul to utilize this advanced technology.

The robotic arm enhances precision in orthopedic surgeries, reducing complications, shortening hospital stays, and speeding up patient recovery.

Dr. Carlos Galia, head of Orthopedics, noted that Mako’s accuracy improves prosthetic component positioning, potentially increasing prosthetic longevity.

Initially, the robot will assist with hip and knee arthroplasties, with plans to expand to shoulder and ankle procedures. The hospital aims to perform up to 100 surgeries monthly with this technology.

With this addition, Moinhos de Vento now operates six robots, reinforcing its commitment to modern, safe patient care. Since launching its robotic surgery program in 2018, the hospital has conducted over 3,000 robotic surgeries across various specialties.

This investment not only enhances surgical efficiency but also ensures continuous medical education for staff, maintaining their leadership in orthopedic innovation.
