India's New Semiconductor Facility to Boost Automotive and Electronics Sectors

India is advancing its semiconductor capabilities with a new facility in Morigaon, Assam, developed by Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd. This facility represents a significant investment of Rs. 27,000 crores and aims to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips daily.

Targeting critical sectors such as automotive and electric vehicles, the facility will utilize advanced technologies like flip chip and Integrated System in Package (ISIP). It is projected to create 15,000 direct jobs and between 11,000 to 13,000 indirect jobs, contributing to the local economy.

The Morigaon unit is part of India's broader strategy to reduce import reliance and strengthen its position in the global semiconductor supply chain. The Indian semiconductor market is estimated at $38 billion, with expectations to grow to $109 billion by 2030.

Supported by initiatives like the India Semiconductor Mission, the project aligns with the government's commitment to fostering a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem, which includes packaging, testing, and assembly capabilities.
