China's New Energy Vehicle Sales Surge

China's new energy passenger vehicle market saw significant growth in September, with retail sales reaching 1.12 million units.

This represents a year-on-year increase of 50.9% and a 9.6% rise from the previous month, according to the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Production of new energy vehicles also surged to approximately 1.22 million units, marking a 51.5% year-on-year growth and a 16.2% month-on-month increase.

The penetration rate of new energy vehicles in the domestic market rose to 53.3% last month.

In the first nine months of 2024, total retail sales of new energy passenger cars increased by 37.4% year-on-year, totaling 7.13 million units.

China exported 105,000 new energy passenger vehicles last month, a 19.3% increase compared to the same period last year and up 6% from August.

From January to September, total exports of new energy passenger cars reached 968,000 units, reflecting a 30.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
