US and UK Decline to Sign AI Declaration at Paris Summit

US Vice President JD Vance warned Europe against imposing overly strict regulations on artificial intelligence (AI), emphasizing that the Trump administration will ensure US dominance in the field. The US and UK refused to sign a joint declaration endorsed by about 60 countries at the AI Summit in Paris, arguing that AI regulation should encourage innovation rather than restrict it. Vance stated that the most advanced AI systems must be developed and manufactured in the US using American technology.

The US rejection was driven by concerns that international regulations could hinder AI progress. Additionally, Washington opposed cooperation with authoritarian regimes, indirectly referencing China. Meanwhile, Europe is working to strengthen its position in AI, announcing €200 billion in investments in data centers and computing infrastructure. However, Vance’s remarks made it clear that the US intends to maintain its global leadership in AI development.
