India Launches AI-Enabled e-Tarang System for Defence Spectrum Management

India has launched the cutting-edge "e-Tarang System," an AI-enabled platform aimed at streamlining and automating defence spectrum planning and management. The announcement was made during the annual meeting of the Joint Electromagnetic Board (JEMB), held on November 13, 2024, and presided over by Air Marshal Jeetendra Mishra.

The meeting brought together senior officials from India's Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with representatives from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and key industry players. Discussions focused on enhancing capabilities in Electronic Warfare (EW), spectrum management, and emerging technologies.

The e-Tarang System, developed in collaboration with the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics (BISAG-N), is designed to improve operational efficiency by optimizing higher frequency bands and minimizing interference. Its AI capabilities are expected to facilitate rapid decision-making and integrate new technologies essential for modern defence.

Additionally, the meeting released the Technical News Letter (TNL) 2024, highlighting anticipated technological trends in modern warfare. Air Marshal Mishra emphasized the need for synergy across the three Services in EW operations and praised their collaboration in India’s first joint EW exercise.

The JEMB is focused on establishing a roadmap for continued advancements in spectrum warfare, aligning India's defence capabilities with the latest technological developments to address emerging threats.
