The Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI), in collaboration with the International Kho Kho Federation, has officially announced the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup scheduled for 2025 in India. This landmark event will feature participation from 24 countries across six continents, showcasing 16 men's and 16 women's teams.
Kho Kho, a traditional Indian sport, will be highlighted for its cultural heritage and competitive spirit during this World Cup. With a growing global presence, the sport is currently played in 54 countries, marking a significant evolution from its origins.
In preparation for the World Cup, the KKFI is set to promote Kho Kho in 200 elite schools across ten cities. The federation aims to register at least 5 million players through a membership drive targeting school students, enhancing grassroots participation in the sport.
Sudhanshu Mittal, President of the KKFI, expressed his excitement about the upcoming tournament, emphasizing its role in fostering international unity and cultural exchange. He stated, "This tournament is not just about competition; it's about bringing nations together and showcasing the beauty of Kho Kho to the world." The federation aspires to see Kho Kho recognized as an Olympic sport by 2032, positioning this World Cup as a pivotal step towards that goal.
The tournament will consist of a week-long series of matches, featuring elite athletes from around the globe who will demonstrate their skills and teamwork. The KKFI aims to elevate Kho Kho onto the international stage, marking a significant milestone in the sport's history.
