Art Exhibition 'Urban Transformations' Opens in Sofia Featuring Young Artists

On December 19, 2024, the 'Urban Transformations' exhibition opened at the Macedonian Cultural Information Center in Sofia, showcasing the works of emerging artists Blagojche Naumoski and Jehona Ajaradini. The exhibition features paintings created using acrylic and mixed techniques.

Blagojche Naumoski elaborated on the project, stating, 'This project focuses on the deconstruction of elements from urban structures, where geometric forms and volumes defining brutalism are isolated and interpreted through acrylic techniques on canvas. My works explore the architectural language of brutalism through an abstract transformation of space, materiality, and volume.' He noted that brutalism presents an aesthetic that is both rigid and dynamic, offering a rich visual language for interpretation.

Naumoski aims to create a visual language that captures the raw character of brutalist architecture, emphasizing the power of geometry and minimalism within urban landscapes. His approach involves isolating basic geometric forms – straight lines, angles, and massive volumes – which are then transformed into abstract compositions. These compositions do not directly represent buildings but explore materiality, space, and volume in a new visual dimension.

By deconstructing segments of urban structures, Naumoski invites viewers to reconsider their relationship with the built environment, perceiving seemingly impenetrable architecture as fluid and evolving. The exhibition reflects the dual nature of the man-made world: designed yet open to reinterpretation through artistic vision.
