Heavy Rainfall expected in Southern Thailand

Director General of the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), Sukanyanee Yawincharn, has issued a sixth warning regarding heavy rainfall expected in southern Thailand. This alert is effective from December 4 through December 5, 2024, A low-pressure system is active, moving from the lower South China Sea through southern Thailand, Malaysia, and into the lower Andaman Sea and the Strait of Malacca.

A moderately strong northeast monsoon affecting the Gulf of Thailand and southern regions is also contributing to the expected weather conditions. This pattern is likely to result in heavy to very heavy rainfall in certain areas, prompting officials to advise residents to remain vigilant against potential hazards such as flash floods, forest runoffs, and overflowing water bodies.

Provinces forecasted to experience significant rainfall today include Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Tomorrow, most of these areas, excluding Surat Thani, are anticipated to continue facing heavy rain.

Sea conditions in the lower Gulf of Thailand are moderately strong, with waves reaching approximately 2 meters high, and possibly exceeding this height in areas experiencing thunderstorms. The upper Gulf is expected to have waves ranging from 1 to 2 meters, while the Andaman Sea will see waves around 1 meter high, also increasing beyond 2 meters in storm-affected areas. Mariners are urged to exercise caution and avoid sailing in regions with thunderstorms.
