In January 2025, the East Coast of the United States experienced a resurgence of UFO sightings, with at least 54 reports recorded, according to Enigma Labs. Nearly 48% of these sightings occurred in New York, which, along with New Jersey, accounted for 61% of the total.
Despite speculation about alien spacecraft, the most likely explanations include civilian-operated drones and government test flights. The FBI, in collaboration with the FAA, DHS, and DoD, has investigated over 5,000 sightings from late 2024, identifying many as common drones.
Officials confirmed that the sightings did not pose a national security threat. They noted that many reports involved misidentified aircraft, including helicopters and fixed-wing planes. The investigation highlighted a significant decline in sightings after the FAA imposed flight restrictions in the Northeast.
