The Recording Academy of the United States has announced the nominations for the 2025 Grammy Awards, highlighting a competitive showdown among female artists. Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and newcomer Chappell Roan are expected to lead the nominations in major categories during the ceremony at Crypto.com Arena, home of the Los Angeles Lakers.
All four artists are anticipated to be nominated in the categories of Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year, which are among the 96 categories in total.
Beyoncé enters the race with her eighth album, 'Cowboy Carter', influenced by country music and marking the second installment of a trilogy celebrating African American contributions to U.S. culture, following 'Renaissance'. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' is buoyed by the success of her worldwide 'The Eras Tour'. Billie Eilish presents her third studio album, 'Hit Me Hard and Soft', coinciding with the start of her new tour.
Chappell Roan is poised to become this year's breakout star with 'The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess', which has captivated younger audiences.
This year, the Academy has added 2,000 new voting members, bringing the total to 13,000, aiming to include more women, people of color, and individuals under 40.
If predictions hold true, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé could break significant records. Should 'The Tortured Poets Department' be nominated for Album of the Year, Swift would become the woman with the most nominations in this category, surpassing Barbra Streisand. If Beyoncé's album is nominated, she would become the Black artist with the most nominations for Album of the Year as a lead artist, currently tied with Kanye West and Kendrick Lamar.
This edition presents another opportunity for Beyoncé to finally claim the award, despite holding the record for the most nominations in history at a total of 88.
In the Record of the Year category, favorites include 'Texas Hold 'Em' by Beyoncé, 'Good Luck, Babe!' by Chappell Roan, 'Espresso' by Sabrina Carpenter, 'Birds of a Feather' by Billie Eilish, 'Die With a Smile' by Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, and 'Not Like Us' by Kendrick Lamar.
For Song of the Year, the predictions are similar, adding 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift (featuring Post Malone and Jack Antonoff). Swift holds the record for the most nominations (7) in Grammy history for this category but has yet to win.
Other notable names for Best New Artist this year include Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boon, Raye, Sexxy Red, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, and Chappell Roan, who won the award last year at the MTVs.
The Rolling Stones are favored for Best Rock Album, having won only three awards throughout their career. Their latest work, 'Hackney Diamonds', arrives after nearly 17 years without a studio album.
In the Latin music categories, the top contenders are Mon Laferte ('Autopoiética'), Nathy Peluso ('Grasa'), Residente ('Las letras ya no importan'), and Bad Bunny ('Nadie sabe lo que va a pasar mañana').
The nominations for the 67th Grammy Awards will be revealed this Friday at 7:45 AM PST (3:45 PM GMT) during a live event that can be followed on the official website and YouTube channel of the Recording Academy.
