JAKARTA - Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, announced plans to export electric vehicle (EV) battery precursors to Tesla, the renowned electric car manufacturer owned by Elon Musk.
The precursors will be sourced from a nickel processing plant located in the Weda Bay Industrial Area, Halmahera, North Maluku.
Bahlil stated, "The precursors will be exported next month to meet Tesla's requirements in Weda Bay," during a statement on Saturday, October 19.
While specific volumes for the export have not been disclosed, Bahlil indicated that precise figures would be revealed after an official announcement. He added, "We will announce it after the inauguration." Previously, while serving as the Minister of Investment, Bahlil indicated that Indonesia would begin supplying Tesla's precursor demands starting January 1, 2025.
