UN Calls for Enhanced Support in Gaza Post-Ceasefire Agreement

The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Muhannad Hadi, on January 22, 2025, urged for strengthened collaboration between UN institutions and local and international organizations in the Gaza Strip.

During a press conference in Gaza, Hadi commended the roles of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States in facilitating the recent ceasefire agreement. He highlighted the urgent need for support in critical sectors, including health, education, nutrition, psychological support, and shelter.

Hadi called for necessary assistance to aid reconstruction efforts, enabling displaced families to return home. He stressed the dire humanitarian situation, with the people of Gaza in urgent need of aid.

The ceasefire took effect on January 21, 2025, following an Israeli military offensive that began on October 7, 2023. This conflict resulted in a humanitarian crisis, with over 47,000 Palestinians reported dead and more than 111,000 injured. Around 11,000 individuals remain missing amidst the destruction.
