Malta Launches Cyber Safety Initiative for Schools

In a proactive effort to combat cyberbullying, the Malta Foundation for the Wellbeing of Society is set to distribute over 80,000 flashcards across schools in Malta and Gozo. This initiative aims to empower students and educators with vital resources to navigate the internet safely.

Designed in collaboration with the United Nations International Telecommunications Union (UN ITU), these flashcards encourage vigilance, thoughtful posting, and seeking help when confronted with online abuse. Foundation chair Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca emphasized the importance of prevention, stating, “We are not merely responding to crises - we are working tirelessly to create a future where such abuse no longer exists.”

During the recent conference titled 'Let's Talk Cyber Security', experts discussed the pervasive threats children face online. Ms. Coleiro Preca highlighted a poignant statement from a young boy who expressed that bullying exists both at school and online, underscoring the urgent need for protective measures.

The initiative also includes training for police officers on the latest online threats and collaborative strategies to enhance child safety in the digital realm. With a commitment from various stakeholders, the Foundation aims to equip children with the knowledge and tools necessary to explore the internet without fear.
