Microsoft Delays AI Recall Tool for Windows 11

Microsoft is refining its AI tool, Recall, for Windows 11 amid privacy and security concerns. Initially set for an October preview on Qualcomm's Snapdragon Copilot+ devices, the launch is now postponed to December.

Due to user feedback, Microsoft is enhancing Recall's security and making it an optional feature. Users can uninstall it if desired. The tool's database will be fully encrypted, requiring Windows Hello authentication for access.

Users can customize what Recall saves, including specific applications and websites, and set retention periods for data. The tool allows for pausing image capture and deleting saved content, while also protecting sensitive information like DRM materials.

UK data regulators are investigating Recall, questioning Microsoft about its security and user privacy measures.
