Alfa Romeo Giulia Transitions to Crossover with New Generation

Alfa Romeo's Giulia will transform from a sedan into a crossover in its next generation, expected in 2026. This shift was confirmed by Santo Ficili, the new CEO of Alfa Romeo, who also leads Maserati.

The new Giulia will adopt the STLA Large platform, used for the Stelvio, suggesting a fastback crossover design. The model will be larger and taller, aligning with the aesthetics of other Stellantis brands, including DS No8 and Peugeot 408.

The STLA Large architecture accommodates internal combustion, hybrid, and fully electric drivetrains. Notably, Alfa Romeo will eliminate the side license plate placement for pedestrian safety, as stated by chief designer Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos. The iconic Scudetto grille will also see an update, along with a redesigned rear light signature.

The next-generation Stelvio will be the first European model on the STLA Large platform, also underpinning the Dodge Charger. Ficili mentioned that the new Stelvio will be exclusively electric, with hybrid versions in development. Production of both the Giulia and Stelvio will occur at the Cassino plant in Italy, with the first Stelvio units expected in July and sales commencing later in the year. The Giulia crossover will debut in 2026.
