EU New Vehicle Sales Drop 18%

New vehicle sales in Europe fell by 18.3% in August, totaling 643,637 units sold compared to 787,812 the previous year.

Despite struggles in France and Germany, Italy and Spain helped maintain a positive market with nearly 7.2 million registrations in 2024, up 1.4%.

Volkswagen leads the market with a 27.8% share but saw an August decline of 14.8% to 179,041 units. Stellantis holds 14.4% market share with 92,667 units sold, a decrease of 29.5%. Renault's sales fell by 13.9%, totaling 64,392 vehicles.

Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) continue to struggle, accounting for 14.4% of the market but recording a 43.9% drop with 92,627 units sold. Germany's sales plummeted by 68.8% to 27,024 units, while France saw a 33.1% decline to 13,143 units.

In contrast, the hybrid market is thriving, with 201,552 units sold in August, reflecting a 6.6% increase. Hybrids now represent 31.3% of total sales in Europe, up from 24% the previous year.
