Russia Develops AI-Controlled Drone Swarms to Overcome Ukrainian Air Defense

Russia is advancing the development of AI-controlled Shahed drones aimed at overcoming Ukrainian air defenses, according to reports. These drones are designed to coordinate autonomously and execute precise attacks. Two factories in Russia are currently producing hundreds of these drones weekly, known as Geran-2 in Moscow. Ukrainian sources indicate that the drones are continuously modified to enhance their lethality.

In the past year, Russian hackers have intensified their attacks on the UK and NATO allies supporting Ukraine. President Vladimir Putin has directly threatened counterattacks on military targets if countries like the UK continue to provide military support to Ukraine. While a conventional military assault on a NATO member is deemed unlikely, increased cyberattacks remain a serious concern, particularly aimed at disrupting power grids.

British Cabinet Minister Pat McFadden highlighted that the UK is already engaged in a 'cyber war' primarily driven by Russian attacks. In response, McFadden will announce the establishment of the AI Security Research Laboratory (LASR) at a NATO conference in London, which aims to monitor emerging threats. Previous cyberattacks on Ukrainian power networks underscore the reality of such threats.
