The Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy (FMACCE) in Nigeria has partnered with Google to launch a training initiative aimed at empowering 2,500 young creatives. This program, delivered by the Del York Creative Academy, is designed to eventually reach 10,000 participants.
Nigeria's creative economy currently employs 4.2 million people, with projections suggesting an additional 2.7 million jobs by 2025. The initiative is part of the Creative Leap Acceleration Programme (CLAP), which focuses on skills development and innovation in the creative sector.
FMACCE Minister Hannatu Musa-Musawa stated, "This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to nurturing Nigeria's creative talent. By empowering our youth with the skills they need, we are positioning Nigeria as a global leader in cultural exports."
The program will provide hands-on training in various fields, including music, film, animation, and content creation, with a focus on integrating AI into the creative process. Olumide Falegan from Google emphasized the initiative's role in recognizing and equipping the unsung heroes of the creative industry.
The six-week training will cover essential skills such as storyboarding, shooting, editing, and motion graphics. A select group will also undergo a three-week intensive training and mentorship program, culminating in the creation of a high-quality visual content project.
